SPL Welcomes... Beacon Herald photographer Scott Wishart


For the Love of Arts... PICTURE PERFECT!
(Thursdays 10:30-11:30 for ages 8-12)


On August 1, meet photographer, Scott Wishart, from the Beacon Herald, in the SPL Auditorium to learn about photography and then head to Shakespeare Gardens (weather permitting) to take some pictures. BYO camera!

This drop in program has a recommended donation of $3.00 per person. We will be accepting registration for 30 children maximum per week. Spots are filling up!  First come, first serve!

Does listening to stories in your pajamas with your favourite stuffed animal sound fun?! If so, bring your 0-6 year old to our “Whale of a Tale” bedtime program on Monday from 6:30-7:15 in the SPL Auditorium. The theme is “On a Safari”. Hope to see you there!

Swimming... Swimming... In the swimming pool...

Looking to cool down on hot summer days?  
Join SPL for our “Beat the Heat” program on Mondays at 1:30-2:00 for stories and songs beside the Lions Pool.  
All children who attend the program will receive a FREE ticket for a swim.  
(Please note: Parents pay regular fee, Lions pool regulations apply, children under 10 require supervision.)

SPL Presents... Stuart Little!

Wednesday is Book-to-Movie night…

The Little family adopt a charming young mouse named Stuart, but the family cat wants rid of him.  Come and watch, STUART LITTLE!

The movie starts at 6:30pm in the SPL Auditorium.  This movie is rated PG, and the running time is 84 minutes.

TD Summer Reading Club

Are you registered for the TD Summer Reading Club?  
We already have over 330 kids registered!  If not, stop by any time on the lower floor of the library and register – its free and easy!  Receive a passport to record the books that you read, get stickers to unlock rewards online, and earn draw tickets to win great prizes. 
Join us for Go! Bon Voyage!  The TD Summer Reading Club drop-in program on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:30 or Fridays from 2:00-3:00.  It’s FREE for ages 3-12.

Special Events in "For the Love of Arts"

“For the Love of Arts” (Thursday 10:30-11:30 for ages 8-12) is having special guests/trips in the upcoming weeks that require registration!

August 1 - Photographer, Scott Wishart, from the Beacon Herald will be joining us in the SPL Auditorium to teach the kids about photography and then they will head over to Shakespeare Gardens (weather permitting) to take some pictures. BYO camera!
August 8 - Friend of the Stratford Shakespearean Festival, Terrie Wilks, will be running a drama workshop in the SPL Auditorium which may also include a display of festival costumes!
August 15 - CJCS/107 MIX FM will welcome our group on a tour of their building located at 376 Romeo Street South. Children will also have the chance to speak to local radio personnel!

This drop in program has a recommended donation of $3.00 per person.  If you would like to register your child, please email immediately with your child's name and we will respond with a confirmation! We will be accepting 30 children maximum per week. First come, first serve!

Calling all space enthusiasts... Enter SPL's out of this world space-themed contest!

Prizes will be awarded for:
  • Poster (no larger than 8.5x11)
  • 3D sculptures (to display on table)
  • Essay (up to 500 words)
  • Poem (up to 16 lines)
Entries will be accepted at SPL until July 26.

We love... Clowning Around!

Have you been to our "For the Love of Arts" program yet? 
It's soooooo much fun!

Next week, we're being clowns!  Never been a clown?  Don't worry!
Everyone will paint their faces, and learn the special tricks to be a great clown.  Feel free to wear a costume if you have one, or bring any special props for the occasion if you choose.

Did you love SLIME?


OOEY GOOEY SLIIIIIME!

Thanks to everyone that came out today to make slime!

If you want to make it again, here is the recipe:
1/2 cup white glue mixed with 1/2 cup water (add food colouring if you want).  In another bowl, mix 1/2 cup water and 1 tbsp borax and stir.  Mix them together and you have slime!

Tales Under the Tent

Need something to do tomorrow?
Tales under the Tent (1:00-1:30) for ages 6-12 and families-- Stories and activities related to the play on the stage at the Festival Theater that afternoon.  Look for the tent between the Discovery Centre and Upper Queen's Park.  Tomorrow is Fiddler on the Roof!

SPL's Art Studio

We had an amazing time in both Art Studio Primary and Art Studio Junior yesterday.  It was our finger painting extravaganza, and we worked with pudding, tempera paint, milk, shaving cream, and much more! 

Make sure to come out next week, when we are making OOEY GOOEY SLIME!!

Want to try the Milk Art at home?
Pour 2% milk (or higher fat content) onto a paper plate.
Drop a few drops of food colouring into the milk.
Pour a few drops of dish soap onto your finger.
Draw in the milk and watch it turn into a kaleidoscope!
